The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Regional Infrastructure Development Board (BPIW) supports accelerated infrastructure development efforts in Riau Province to improve competitiveness in the region. This is explained by BPIW secretary Dadang Rukmana.

BPIW is currently developing infrastructure with the territorial-based method or Strategic Development Area (WPS) which is divided into 35 WPS. Riau Province entered in WPS 2, namely WPS Medan-Tebing Tinggi-Dumai-Pekanbaru.

"It is expected that with WPS can find the point of the region when the infrastructure is built will give multiplier effect to the surrounding area. Especially with the limited capacity of state finances in financing infrastructure spending," said Secretary of BPIW, Dadang Rukmana, as reported from (20/4/2017).

The Riau infrastructure development plan in 2018 has been documented in the Masterplan and Development Plan (MPDP) of WPS 2, among others are the construction of Kampar Kanan River cliff security in Kampar District, the construction of Kampar Kiri River flood control infrastructure in Kampar regency. In addition, Riau will build a Regional Water Supply System (SPAM) - the main distribution network from Tanjung Melawan, Rokan Hilir to Simpang Bangko.

"SPAM development for Dumai city, Rokan Hilir regency and Bengkalis Regency with a capacity of 2000 litre / second," explained Dadang.

In addition, there are also widening the Kampar-Bangkinang boundary road, the widening of Jalan Subrantas-Kampar road, and the widening of Jalan SIak II in Pekanbaru.
