Bintan Resort and Sriwijaya Air Develops Airport in Bintan
JAKARTA – Tourism is one of the strategic industry sectors in Bintan which very promising from the prospect side. This sector is capable to bring significant regional income from foreign tourist around the world. To make tourism sector in Bintan grow faster, PT Bintan Resort Cakrawala along with PT Sriwijaya Air Group focused on infrastructure development. One of the main strategy is to build airport in Bintan.
The size of the airport is approximately 1.300-1.500 hectare with a runway of 3.000 meters long. “We already start the land preparation, now we are on process to build the runway and airport development” said Mr. Abdul Wahab, General Manager of Bintan Resort, as reported from kontan.co.id (12/7/2017).
All of the project financing comes from Gallant Venture, parent company of Bintan Resort. The airport development budget is estimated around 450 million USD. When the project is finished, Bintan is expected to be visited by 2-3 million tourist.
The first phase consisting runway construction and airport building will be completed in the next two years followed by second phase in 2025. Airport hub and flight school will be built in the second phase. “Our target when airport hub is completed, we can provide 25.000-35.000 experts from all over Indonesia” Mr. Abdul claimed.
