Infrastructure Development Acceleration Not Causing Construction Accident

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono confirmed that the cause of construction accidents is not the acceleration of infrastructure development. This was revealed when he launched the National Movement for Construction Safety (GNKK) on Monday (29/1).
The focus of the Indonesian government today is the acceleration of infrastructure development. However, this does not necessarily mean it has encouraged the recent construction accidents in some important infrastructure projects.
"Not because of the acceleration and then the work accident. Our infrastructure stock is still small so we increase the speed. From keroncong to rock and roll rhythm. But the speed is now okay because within 2-3 years future infrastructure development is still a national development priority," said Basuki Hadimuljono as reported from pu.go.id (2/2/18).
He gave examples of toll road construction in China, where one year can reach 4,000-5,000 km, while in Indonesia, the construction of 1,000 km takes 5 years. Therefore, it needs innovation to catch up. If not, Indonesia will be lagging behind other countries.
The PUPR Ministry also encourages its employees to have specialized construction expertise. One of the efforts is to develop the Sapta Taruna High School to become a polytechnic so that it can produce experts.
The Human Resource Development Fund of the PUPR Ministry will also focus on printing experts/specialists to support infrastructure development or no longer used for general master scholarships.
