The Importance of Sustainable Transportation Development in Indonesia

BANDUNG - Infrastructure expert in transportation from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Prof. Ade Sjafruddin said that transportation problems in the country are not just building a highway.
He asserted to overcome it should also pay attention to public and environmental habits in the use of public transportation. A real example is the condition of highways in the city of Jakarta and Bandung, which is dominated by private vehicles and large trucks carrying goods.
This is explained by Prof. Ade Sjafruddin in scientific oration entitled "The Development of Sustainable Area Transportation to Enhance National Economic Competitiveness". He believes that the idea of developing sustainable transportation is essential to the problem of sustainable development.
"The quality of the environment is also heavily influenced by transportation activities that will continuously accumulate over time, to arouse the attention of many soriety that there is something 'wrong' in determining policy and planning," said Prof. Ade Sjafruddin, as reported from jabarprov.go.id (20/2).
More details Prof. Ade Sjafruddin explained, "We need different glasses in the management of transportation infrastructure to meet the needs of the community in order to carry out their activities."
Therefore, in order for sustainable development, it is necessary to assess not only the infrastructure but also the impact on the environment, such as public transport passengers in some cities.
Prof. Ade hopes that transportation sessions can further develop city transportation such as trains by saying, "The transportation system in the future must build many good railways and ports, and more importantly its operating system."
